This says it all:
A mama polar bear is out in the stream fishing, while her son is playing on the bank. After awhile, the baby polar bear comes over to his
mother and says, "Mom, what kind of bear am I?" to which she replies "You're polar bear, son." "Okay," he says and returns to the bank to play.
In a little while he comes back over and says, "Mom, what kind of bear am I?"
"Why, you're a polar bear, son." "Hmmm...," say the baby, "okay." And off he goes to play.
A little more time goes by and the baby polar bear comes back and says, "Mom, are sure I'm a polar bear?" "Yes," the mama polar bear replies, "I'm sure you're a polar bear. Why don't you believe me?"
"'I'm cold!" exclaims the baby bear.
Now -
Me: reducing my reliance on the boy a bit more each day. I'm taking over most of the domains that normally are his. First plumbing, now pizza. I made his recipe yesterday. The crust came out better than his. Very proud! But yes, I'm cold. Heat is on for the first time in months.
Recent Adventures: none. Been home lots.
The Farm: Under it's first morning day of frost. I must bring in some plants today if this continues - goes to check the weather network. But autumn hasn't hit the trees yet. Still lots of green leaves - up there waiting to fall, mocking me. They'll all come down at once. However, the boy is done the dugout for the year. It should be filled this weekend and then I can start flooding the irrigation ditches to give the shelter belts a final drink. The garden crop is almost done - gathered the last of the corn and beans last night. Just the squash (6 pumpkins!!!) and hopefully some tomatoes are left (if they survived the frost.) So far we picked 10lbs of toms most of which ended up in 7 jars of salsa & 3 jars of tomato sauce. I'm very happy with the results. Even got to use my new handy dandy tomato press from Lee Valley - ordered on Wednesday and arrived on Monday :-) Once the pumpkins are done, I'll map out an even larger garden area and get it ready for next year.
The farm house: Staying fairly clean in spite of the wine making and canning activities. The outside is so not yet finished for the year but I'm already itching to do some renos. First up - the office, well the current guest room. The room with horrible paint treatment and just sub floor. That's a reduce to studs and start over kinda job.
The Farm Animals: Still upset over the lack of thumbs.
Reading Watching Listening: I gave up on Books On Fire. I tried. I really did. So now I'm reading The Discoverers. Written much better. The Boy and I are watching the BBC's Planet Earth. While a bit sparse on details, the cinematography is gorgeous. My favorite part are the diaries - a kind of "making of" showing how the crew filmed the best parts - like the bats in the caves or birds of paradise. Nothing new on the iPod recently. Must take care of that today before the travel begins in earnest. But I am very sad that Kevin Slyvester is almost done on CBC's Sounds like Canada. The world needs more Kevin Slyvester.
SCA: I have a few things to do but it's been really hard to get upstairs to my regular computer. ugh. I can't dial up on that phone line during the day as it's my work line. But my lap top doesn't have the files or can't do what I need. Mind you I guess I should be working during the day right? And by the time work is done, I'm too anti computer to switch over. Perhaps tonight while the boy is mowing the lawn.
Work: Yesterday was the first appointment for Spring 09 at UofLeth. The presentation went very well although I just, moments before leaving recieved my Canadian catalogue. Didn't really get a good look at the finished product so I was a bit slow. Stopped in at the Galt on the way home. Finally met the buyer there and now have a better idea of what titles they're looking for. We don't have much for southern Alberta history but there are a few things I can offer. Next up ABRA meeting tomorrow morning in Calgary and a few hours at Monkeyshines. I'm very disappointed in the prairie sales for 39 Clues when it's going like wildfire elsewhere. We'll see if there's better news tomorrow or what we can do
Thinking On: Strange dreams, To-do lists, Cunning plans, and computer updates.
Upcoming: Tomorrow, the boy heads to E-town for conference. I'm staying home with pup so I will not see Hugh Brewster getting an "Order of Canada" in a ceremony at The Science Centre or the Body World exhibit. *pout* But I will be spending a day in Cow-town and will arrange something for up north later :-)
